Molded for Mercy: Backing Injection Molded Tourniquets for Ukraine
The ongoing violence against Ukraine has created an enormous need for tourniquets, a potentially life-saving device that controls hemorrhage from penetrating wounds. Most commercial tourniquets are often too expensive for Ukrainians to afford, and the prevalence of cheap Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T) clones has created questions around the clinical efficacy and safety of such imports. Glia’s tourniquet has been tested and used effectively on trauma patients and fits limbs of diverse sizes, including those of women and children.
In 2022, Glia received private funding to manufacture tourniquets for Ukraine and a generous contribution from Public Invention to research the creation of a desktop injection molded production line, which would allow rapid manufacture of tourniquets in volume. Glia Poland was founded to help honor these donor goals and extend the funding impact. The injection mold research is close to completion, and needs additional funding before manufacturing and distribution can begin.
Your donation to this campaign will support Glia Poland in the manufacture and distribution of tourniquets into Ukraine. Additional funds will sponsor additional testing with the Naval Medical Research Unit and the London Health Sciences Centre's clinical trial.
