Volunteer Research Opportunity: Pulse Oximeter Study Guideline

Volunteer Research Opportunity: Pulse Oximeter Study Guideline

We are seeking a dedicated volunteer to work on the Pulse Oximeter Study Guideline and contribute to advancing open-source medical innovation!

Background: In 2016, Glia initiated ethics and protocol for a clinical trail with London Health Sciences Center while at the same time collaborating with Inštitut IRNAS, a Slovenian company which was developing an open-source, low-cost pulse oximeter. By June 2019, the hardware and firmware of the IRNAS and Glia collaboration debuted on the Glia GitHub, just in time for the clinical trail pilot at Victoria Hospital in September 2019. Unfortunately, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic suspended ICU access and delayed the clinical trial from Spring 2020 through 2022. Despite these challenges, Glia has retained Health Canada Ethics Board Approval to continue the trial. However, local resource limitations prevent us from moving forward independently. To bridge this gap, we aim to partner with a well-resourced healthcare facility capable of conducting the study and bringing this project to fruition.

We are looking for a motivated volunteer to develop a comprehensive study outline that will guide potential collaborators in conducting this vital clinical trial. This task is pivotal to connecting with healthcare research teams and ensuring the successful implementation of the study.

Your tasks will include:
  • Reviewing documents: Access and analyze relevant materials, such as study protocol and REB application.
  • Synthesizing information: Develop a clear, concise, and professional guideline document that is ready for presentation to healthcare research teams.
  • Engaging with team members: Conduct interviews and consultations with key team members to confirm details and ensure accuracy.
This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in research collaboration, medical device development, and clinical study planning while contributing to meaningful change in global healthcare.
If you are interested in playing a crucial part in furthering Glia's mission to make essential medical devices accessible, affordable, and open-source, please reach out using the form below. Detailed project background information available upon request.
